Having children looked after during the week can be a challenge when they are small. However, there are different solutions, at different prices, for different types of education and all types of families. It is also worth noting that the State can contribute to and provide access to aid for families in need, for example through the CAF or works councils.
We have looked at the different options and here we offer you the advantages and disadvantages of each. In any case, there is now a lot of choice in finding the right place for your child.
Nannies at home
Would you like to entrust your child to someone you can trust? Nannies support you by accompanying your child through all stages of development from your home. Here are some advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages:
- The creation of a deep and stable bond between the child and the nanny
- As the childcare facility is in your home, the child remains in his or her own environment, which is reassuring for the child and practical for the nanny, who has everything at her disposal
- Flexibility of the nanny's schedule
- Your priority is therefore the well-being and comfort of your child
Disadvantages:
- The often high cost of the service as the nanny has to be paid and social security contributions have to be paid in advance
- The obstacle course to find "the one".
- The fact that your children are not in a group setting
Childminders
Unlike a baby-sitter or a nanny at home, a registered childminder takes care of your children in her/his home, in her/his house or flat or in a MAM (Maison Assistante Maternelle). The childminders are approved by the Conseil Général and after an interview and a visit from a PMI childminder, they are allowed to look after 1, 2, 3 or 4 children.
Advantages:
- The creation of a stable and deep bond between the child and the childminder as she looks after few children at a time
- Flexibility of timetables in contrast to the crèche
- The price of a childminder is generally lower than that of a crèche
Disadvantages:
- The fact that your children are not in a group setting
- The fact that you have to drop off your children as opposed to the nanny who travels (depending on the proximity of the drop-off point!)
Shared custody
Shared custody is when the same person looks after the children of two different families in the homes of both families, alternating between the two. Find the advantages and disadvantages below:
Advantages:
- Financial comfort: 50% of the costs to be paid by you and 50% by the other family
- The fact that you don't have to do any transport chores: you just have to go to the family's house, which ideally should be close to your home for more convenience
- The evolution in the family cocoon for children
- The fact that the child is not alone
Disadvantages:
- There must be a good understanding between the parents or you risk having to interrupt the joint custody: choose the family well (close ties between you, same educational principles, same lifestyle). In short, you are marrying into another family for a few years, so choose carefully!
- The flexibility of the timetable is less important than in simple custody since it depends on a second family, particularly for holiday planning
- Your home must be able to accommodate the other family's children as well, so you must have double the equipment
The nurseries
There are different types of day care centres, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Public/municipal crèches:
Public crèches are generally collective crèches for between 20 and 60 children aged 0-3 years. The children are generally placed in sections, according to age.
Advantages:
- The child's knowledge of community life before school
- Safe, clean premises in which regular checks are carried out
- The staff is competent, trained and sufficient in number
- They offer a variety of activities for children
- There are no meals to be provided
- The crèche is open all the time (only closed for a few weeks in the summer)
- Presence of a paediatrician on site
Disadvantages:
- It is very difficult to get a place, sometimes you wait a year or more
- Children's lifestyles are not very personalised: their needs are less listened to
- Reception hours are fixed
- If one child is sick, it is common for all of them to be sick
- If your child is ill: no crèche so need to find another solution in a hurry
Micro-nurseries:
A micro-crèche is a childcare facility for children aged between 2 months and 3 years. Unlike municipal crèches, it is distinguished by its maximum number of ten children, all grouped in a single section, regardless of their age.
Vidiamo has created a partnership with a network of Parisian micro-crèches, LES P'TITS BOSS, whose values are to place the well-being of parents, children and their employees at the centre of their thinking. On a daily basis. They use active pedagogy, based on the theories of Maria Montessori, Emmi Pikler and Adolphe Ferrière, which places the child at the centre of the pedagogical project.

Advantages:
- Tailor-made support: adaptable to your education and your child
- A more personal welcome
- The fact that there are far fewer children
- The age range that will help your baby's development
Disadvantages:
Company crèches :
Company crèches (or inter-company crèches) take in the children of the staff of one or more employers, such as the Baboune crèche network, which aims to create quality places to provide the best possible support for the development, stimulation and well-being of children aged 0 to 3 years. Baboune offers a concept of private crèches with personalised and individualised care for each child. Their group is currently present in the Ile-de-France region with some twenty establishments in Paris, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines.
Thanks to this collaboration, Vidiamo offers you the registration fee for one of the Baboune crèches by using the code " MERCIVIDIAMO " when you register!
Find out more about them on their website https://baboune.fr/.
The advantages and disadvantages are as follows:
Advantages:
- The proximity of the crèche to the workplace
- Flexible working hours adapted to parents' working hours
- Trained and monitored staff
Disadvantages:
- The number of facilities is limited: not all companies have their own crèche
- Their cost is higher than that of public crèches*.
Vidiamo is proud to be able to create great partnerships with several daycare networks in the Paris region: Baboune and Les P'tits Boss.
In conclusion, there are solutions for all tastes and prices, but it may not be an easy task. Our advice is therefore to plan well in advance !
